| Marco Amelia caught the eye of Italy coach Marcello Lippi with his impressive shot-stopping and consistent performances this season for club side Livorno. Firmly established as his country’s third-choice goalkeeper, Amelia already boasts considerable international experience, having been a member of Italy’s UEFA European U-21 Championship-winning side of 2004, and also the Azzurri team that took bronze at the 2004 Olympic Football Tournament in Athens. Germany 2006 offers him the possibility of further international experience, and could even help pave the way for a move to one of Italy or Europe’s big clubs.
